Indoor Leak?

There are two easy ways to determine if you have a leak in your plumbing system—check your water meter or take a meter reading.

\

To check your water meter, turn off all running water in and outside your home. Locate your water meter and check to see if the leak indicator, a small triangular or silver wheel, is moving. Is the dial moving? You may have a leak!

\

When taking a meter reading, turn off all running water in and outside your home for the duration of this process. Take a meter reading and wait 1-2 hours. Then, take a second meter reading. If the reading has changed, you may have a leak!

Outdoor Leak?

\

For outdoor leaks, turn off the main shut off valve for your home—this is typically in the basement or garage directly behind an outdoor faucet or outside below an outdoor faucet—and follow the directions above for taking a reading or checking your water meter.
